DESCRIPTION

Very large owl with yellow eyes with prominent ear tufts. Generally mottled grey or brown with white to rufous under-parts and facial disk. Streaks on chest with heavy barring below.

HABITAT

Semi-open landscape with trees. Locally up to 4,000m. Absent from primary rainforest and dense cloud forest.

DISTRIBUTION

America from Alaska to Central and South America.
