DESCRIPTION

One of the smallest species of owls. Red-brown in colour and often streaked on crown and forehead. Facial disk brown or rufous flecked with white and yellow eyes.

HABITAT

Tropical and subtropical forest, forest clearings.

DISTRIBUTION

South America, east of Andes as far south as Central Argentina. Status - Not globally threatened.
