Medium to large grey owl with no ear tufts and dark eyes. Grey to greyish-brown colour, with boldly streaked whitish-grey under-parts.

Relatively open mature forest.

Northern Europe and Siberia to Korea and Japan. Status - Not globally threatened and relatively common in some areas.
